Family and Child Connect (FaCC) supported Christina*, a young mother, to relocate from Palm Island to the mainland after being subjected to significant domestic violence. This was an enormous team effort. We collaborated with the Townsville Local Level Alliance (LLA) to support Christina’s family, and the team then supported the family financially and with ongoing support. Christina was not financially affected, as the service group covered all cost involved with the move from the island.
The services involved:
- Queensland Police Service: safety checks and possible escort during departure from Palm Island
- Palm Island Community Company (PICC) Domestic Violence Service
- Department of Housing
- North Queensland Domestic Violence Resource Service (NQDVRS)
- Seras Women’s Shelter
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service (ATSILS)
- Yumba Meta (domestic violence safe housing)
