Prioritising Health and Safety in the Workplace
Mercy Community is committed to the wellbeing of its workforce and emphasises the importance of health and safety in its work environment. With a focus on preventing work-related injuries and illnesses, Mercy Community is dedicated to providing and upholding secure systems of work while minimising potential hazards.
To achieve this, Mercy Community emphasises safety leadership at all levels, ensuring accountability and a strong commitment to the health, safety, and wellbeing of its people. We diligently comply with work health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and relevant standards. Mercy Community regularly monitors, reviews, and reports health and safety performance against agreed objectives and targets to minimise the impact of work-related injuries and illnesses.
Mercy Community continuously improves its work health and safety management systems to remain relevant and responsive to emerging hazards and risks. Proactive measures are taken to manage ill and injured employees, enabling their safe return to work following work or non-work-related injuries or illnesses. Hazards are identified, managed, and mitigated, while healthy and safe facilities and work environments are ensured.
Embracing innovation and technology, Mercy Community strives to minimise health and safety risks. We actively consult, cooperate, and coordinate with workers and key stakeholders to identify, assess, and mitigate risks to health, safety, and wellbeing. Mercy Community provides its people with the necessary information, training, and resources to empower them in managing risks and encourages immediate reporting of any perceived dangers or hazards in the workplace.
Mercy Community workers are expected to exercise reasonable care for their own health and safety, as well as that of others. Compliance with instructions, health and safety policies, and procedures is essential. Participation in safety training, reporting of hazards, injuries, incidents, and near misses, and the proper use of safety equipment and personal protective equipment are mandatory.
Mercy Community’s ultimate goal is to create a work environment where risks to health, safety, and wellbeing are minimised to the greatest extent possible. Achieving this goal relies on the commitment, participation, and cooperation of all individuals covered by this policy.
Any breaches of this policy may result in disciplinary action, including termination, particularly in cases of wilful or deliberate conduct that poses imminent and serious risks to health and safety. In addition to internal disciplinary measures, breaches of this policy may lead to prosecution and/or fines for non-compliance with work health and safety duties and other applicable laws.
