Romero Multicultural Hub was recently approached by Hoipolloi Theatre Company, who selected Romero as the beneficiary of their fundraising efforts during the Brisbane performances of The Duke. The Duke, which was performed at the Brisbane Powerhouse last Thursday and Friday, is a semi-autobiographical tale of Shôn Dale-Jones.
A couple of team members from Romero attended the performances and spent time talking with attendees after the show. This presented the chance for the team to share the positive outcomes achieved for refugees and people seeking asylum in Brisbane, and the ongoing need for such services in the community.
Romero received almost $1 000 from Hoipolloi’s fundraising efforts, and several people at the theatre expressed their interest in finding out more about the work Romero Multicultural Hub does to ‘give a voice to the voiceless’.
Mercy Community would like to thank Hoipolloi Theatre Company for their generosity in providing a platform for Romero Multicultural Hub to not only receive fundraising, but also for a chance to share Romero's story.
